Why to drink water kept in copper vessel?

Copper is one of the oldest metals known to human civilization. It is known as one of the healthiest metal and has been explained for medicinal purposes. Copper metal has cultural, religious, medical and astrological values too. The oldest medicinal science Ayurveda has good explanation of copper as a medicine. Storing water in copper and silver pots for purification of water finds mention in ancient texts of Ayurveda Copper is the Kapha energy balancing metal. To use copper as an ornaments, jewelers, copper metal mixed medicines and eat food/drink water in copper vessels are good for balance.

This ancient view is supported from the results of recent research which states that when ground-water with a slightly alkaline pH and  contaminated with 500 colony forming units (CFU)/mL of bacteria was  stored in copper pots for 16 hours at room temperature, all  bacteria were killed. It is reported to destroy diarrhea causing bacteria, such as Vibrio cholerae, enteropathogenic E. coli, Salmonella. It is also effective against many other disease-causing bacteria such as, S. flexneri and Salmonella Paratyphi.

Use of copper metal in Ayurveda

Keep water in copper vessel and drink water in copper cups is an old Indian tradition. It is believed the water stored in copper vessels can provide many health benefits. Scientist has found anti microbial properties in copper metal. Thus drinking water in copper vessels will reduce ageing process by stimulating collagen proteins. The copper metal itself has the properties to kills virus, bacteria and micro organisms.

As we know copper is a part of essential minerals for our body. Drinking water in copper vessels helps to purify the water and dissolve some part of copper minerals in it. Copper also helps to correct the iron deficiency of our body like the condition of Anaemia. Also it is good for the healthy skin and beauty.

The skin condition called Vitiligo is well treated with drinking water in copper vessels. Copper can keep our digestive system in balance and keep fighting with the gastrointestinal diseases.

Tips:

  • Keep water in a copper vessel overnight and drink 2 glasses of water in the morning immediately after you wake up. This is one of the body purification methods as explained in Ayurveda.
  • Be careful with the modern plastic, aluminum, plastics vessels for drinking water. Let’s use the traditional and friendly metal like Copper for the sake of our health.

  • I really glad to know about the technique using copper vessels for daily purpose. As far as I know about using the copper vessels to drink water, it is an ancient Indian method part of Ayurveda. This method is still used by many Indian families. I’ve read some articles and blogs about the Ayurveda, and now this is the rising trend in the US which is great. I am using the copper vessels for a long time since I have read some blogs about the benefits of copper vessels.
