Simple medication for prevention of eye disease

“Prevention is better than cure”.  This is very important saying in case of eye disease as well. It is proved that about 80% of the knowledge we gain is through the eye. So the existence and status of a person in the universe is directly influenced by the eye.  In short, protection of the visual organ is not only a necessity but also a responsibility of every one has to be aware of the methods for prevention of eye disease. Simple medications include certain simple procedures that can be done by the person himself without any special restriction. These can be used as daily practice.

  1. Anjana : Anjana is a method in which the medicine is applied along the inner surface of the lid. Honey is the best medium for anjana. ‘Sourveeranjana’, darvee rasakriya etc. are mixed with honey and used as anjana, because honey is very particular to the ophthalmic tissue. It can penetrate the vessel walls and layersof krishnamandalam. So medicines with honey reaches all parts of eye. Daily practice of anjana as Dinacharya is the best simple ophthalmic medication to prevent eye diseases.
  2. Nasya : Nasya is the procedure in which, medicine is applied through the nasal cavity. Nasal cavity, anatomically, leads to the structure of the head, and so it is considered as the natural route to the head. So it is easy to apply medicine through this route. When medicine is applied through the nasal cavity and inhaled, it directly spreads. Nasya always has actions on the shrotas and it cleans the srothas. So daily application of prathimarsa nasya will prevent the accumulation of vitiated.
  3. Kabala and Gandoosha : Kabala and gandoosha are methods of medication in which the medicine is applied in the mouth. In kabala medicine are filled in the mouth so medicine reach the buccal cavity while shaking. The salivary secretion in mouth acts in the medicine.  The action of kabala in the ophthalmic tissue depends upon the medicine used. The structure  of the eye may get nourished, stimulated, evacuated or maintained by the medicine value of drugs used for kabala In gandoosha, full mouth medicine is used in such a way that we cannot shake it. The medicine is absorbed to the vessels by simple osmosis. The nerve ending of the buccal cavity are stimulated, which in turns brings reflex action in the eyes.
  4. Dhoompana : Dhoomapana is a special methods in which the medicine is taken through the nose in form of smoke. The smoke is inhaled through the nose and exhaled through the mouth. Dhoom generally has ushna and theekshna gunas. It dilates the blood vessels and increases circulation especially in the head region. This brings out positive changes to the eye.
  5. Mukhalepa : This is procedure for applying medicine on the face. It is applied over the face with the thickness of about 1/2  inch. It should be removed before it completely dry. Then wash the face with clean water or suitable medicated water.
