Isabgol, also known as Psyllium Husk, is a natural vegetable product, which is retrieved from Isabgol seeds by milling process. Isabgol is the wonderful ayurvedic Herb for bowel regulation which are useful as demulcent bulk laxative for constipation. Common name Psyllium husk (English), Isaphgul (Hindi), Isabgol (H), Blond psyllium (E) Sanskrit Asvakarnabıja Latin Plantago ovata–Semen (Plantaginaceae family)

INDICATIONS

Digestion

Isabgol is very useful for digestive system. It is an bulk laxative for chronic constipation and relieve diarrohoea when taken with buttermilk. Isabgol seeds are used for diarrhoea and dysentry which shows very effective against species of Entamoeba. Isabgol also helps todrags toxins and worms out of the alimentary canal.

Lungs  Isabgol is excellent soothing demulcnt for dry cough as expectorant.

Urinary The mucus production by reflex action helps between the intestinal tract and lungs into thee urinary system helps to prevent painful urination.

Blood fats and sugars  Isabgol helps in dissolving the unused fat with its soluble fibre content like LDL Cholesterol. Also helps to reduce blood sugar level in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Piles, Cardiovascular Diseases, Hernia and Pregnancy


Isabgol is also used in piles, fissures and fistulas to bring down the burning sensation after defecation. It also helps to prevent strain during defecation in those who are suffering from cardiovascular diseases, hernia and pregnancy.

COMBINATIONS

* Triphala-, rhubarb for constipation.

* Triphala-, kutki for diarrhoea.

* Licorice for dry coughs.

* Punarnava, gokshura for urinary pain.

DOSAGE

5–10g per day taken with plenty of liquid to prevent intestinal obstruction.
