Honey is the natural blessing from nature and the first natural sweetener known to mankind. Honey is sacred in many cultures and Ayurveda explain honey as nectar and has been prescribed for more than 5000 years.

Honey is the rich source of all the important nutrients which are important for growth and development of human body. It has the property of antimicrobial and best edible diet. According to Ayurveda, Honey is the secondary diet than Mothers milk for the baby.

The best honey is raw, unprocessed and not heat treated. If we call honey, this is the product from bees only. In the market now, we get several types of honey, the real honey from bees are medicinal and the super food.

When we go for shopping honey in the market, we get confused to see different price, color and origin. Although the tag shows 100% pure, it is a hard job to confirm the purity of real honey. Often, people mix sugar or jaggery to prepare honey.  The first step to choose the right honey is to check the ingredient listed. However, even if no other ingredients are listed, the manufacturer may not be telling the truth.

Let’s discuss some simple techniques to distinguish pure honey and impure honey.

Test your honey
Honey purity test

Method 1

Put 1 spoon of honey in the normal room temperature water.

Observation:

  • Pure honey added to water at room temperature does not dissolve and its strands settle down at the bottom without making any bubbles.
  • Impure honey or sugar mixed honey dissolves immediately.
  • Impure honey changes the color of water. Pure honey mixed with water stay the same.
  • Pure honey even if kept of a long time will never crystallize.

Method 2

Soak the cotton in Honey and light the cotton, the pure honey cause the cotton to burn smoothly but the impure honey with water or jaggery is difficult to burn and produce some sounds additional.

Method 3

Drop some honey in tissue paper or cotton cloth, if it is getting absorb it is not pure. The pure honey stays without changing.

In this way, we can compare the pure and impure honey in these few steps at home. Be aware of impure honey and enjoy the health benefits of pure honey.
