With the beginning of summer season, there is increase in surrounding temperature. Day light is prominent and we need something to cool our body. Thus we remember cold drinks like Coca Cola, Pepsi, Mirinda, ice cream etc. Although these drinks are popular in market but there is no comparision with natural herbal drinks. There is description of herbal drinks in Ayurveda science as per season. Diet and lifestyle to be followed during summer includes herbal drinks to cool your body, energies mind and soul. Daily atleast 5 liter of water is needed during hot summer. Summer brings it with a host of symptoms like excessive body heat, dehydration, sweating, skin rashes, sunburns, acne, diarrhea, and of course irritation, lethargy and short fuses. Due to excessive sweating, electrolytes can be balanced by drinking water. Essential electrolytes like sodium, potassium can be fulfilled by herbal drinks naturally.  Chilled bottled juice or carbonated beverages to cool down is bad idea. It will not only impair your digestive system but also harm your body immune system and digestive fire. Keeping your body proper hydrated is vital during summer. Grape juice, water melon shakes, lassibel sharbat and cocunut milk are refreshing and healthy choices in summer.  Some of the popular summer soft drinks are listed below:

Lemon juice

Lemon juice is the best life saving drinks. Lemon is excellent remedy for most of illness. One glass of lemon juice with adding 2-3 teaspoonful sugar and one pinch salt is good drinks during summer. Electrolyte lose by sweating potassium is fulfilled by lemon and sodium is fulfilled by salt.

Coconut water

Coconut water is good for health. A glass of coconut water gives 50 calorie energy but essential elements are included in it. Including sodium, potassium equivalent to our blood, it is most natural herbal drinks.

Rice wash water

When rice is boiled in water, the collected water is cooled and can be mixed with black pepper, rock salt or little sugar. This prepared drinks is rich in Vitamin B complex specially for growing children.

Fresh fruits juice

Fresh juice would be wonderful for good health. Seasonal fruits rich in vitamin, minerals are very important in balance diet. Fresh fruits directly or fruit juice can be consumed mixing with or without sugar. Juicy fruits like sugarcane, mango, orange, pineapple, water melon are best fruit juice items in summer season. Packaged fruit juice with preservatives are not equally beneficial.

Cumin water

Cumin water is prepared with mixture of cumin seeds, rock salt, black pepper and mint leaves. All of these are mixed well in water and final mixture is rich source of magnesium, iron etc. This built immunity and rich source of vitamins and minerals.

Milk products

Milk is essential component of balanced diet. Milk is rich source of calcium, energy, protein and so on. Milk and milk products are essential for fulfilling bodily nutrients. Even for summer season, milk products can be healthy soft drinks. Possible milk products may be ice cream, saffron milk, almond milk, rose milk, lassi, curd, butter etc.

Butter milk

Half cup of butter milk provides 30 grams calcium and 15 calorie. It contains equal protein and fats content. It is very useful for all kind of illness including chronic diabetes, heart disease, acidity, digestive problems etc.
