Cow Urine (Gomutra) as Ayurvedic Medicine

According to Ayurveda Cow urine plays a major part in Hindu practices and rituals and its curative properties are claimed in Charaka samhita texts. In Ayurveda where ever urine is mentioned, it is to be understood as cow urine. Excessive use of any medicine leaves some residue in our body. This residue causes diseases. Cow urine destroys the poisonous effects of residues and makes body disease free. The medicinal usage of Panchgavya, particularly cow urine is practiced in Ayurveda; a system classified by Western medicine as complementary and alternative medicine intended to complement rather than replace an existing treatment regimen and relationship between a patient and their physician.

Cow urine is cow’s blood that is filtered by kidney.Kidneys filter blood. Cow Urine (gomutra), is a natural antiseptic and in Ayurveda it is known as ‘Sanjivani’. The laboratory analysis of cow urine shows that it contains nitrogen, sulphur, phosphate, sodium, manganese, carbolic acid, iron, silicon, chlorine, magnesium, melci, citric, titric, succenic, calcium salts, Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, minerals, lactose, enzymes, creatinine, hormones and gold acids – all needed in smaller amounts by the human body to balance the “tridosha”- vata, pitta and Kapha. Mix 10 ml ark (2 teaspoon) with 10 gm. honey (1 teaspoon) and 25 ml normal water (half a cup), take the mixture twice a day in morning empty stomach and before sleeping.

Reduce the quantity to half.
