Benefits of Ayurvedic Massage (Abhyanga)

Ayurveda text book Ashtanga Hridayam and Ashtanga Sangraha , classified abhyanga for giving in on daily basic to prevent and heal illness. For therapeutic purpose or daily activities it is best Ayurveda therapy. It is done as the major therapy in Panchakarma. Before proceeding to Major therapy (Pradhan karma) it falls under pre therapy ( Purva karma)  Many benefits arise from daily abhyanga. Let us know the general benefits of abhyanga individually.

  1. Reverse/prevents ageing and increase longevity
  2. Removes fatigues and stress from work and life overall
  3. Heals and prevents nervous system disorders
  4. Promotes good vision
  5. Nourishes the body and promotes sturdiness
  6. Remedies insomnia
  7. Creates an electrochemical balance in the body
  8. Oil rubbed into the skin prevents dehydration
  9. Oil help the electromagnetic field of the body
  10. Stimulates antibody production, thus strengthening the immune system

Ageing : Abhyanga helps to maintain life and people can live a normal life span (longevity or Ayush)

It is done with the help of sesame, mustard or almond oil, applied to the spine, head, feet, removes effects of old age and increase longevity.

Fatigue : Passive exercise, cleanses stress from the muscles, removes toxins from the organs, cell, tissues and blood. And tones the muscles and nerves. Rubbing, patting, squeezing of muscles and add sandalwood oil to oil mixture. Adding a heating oil such as mint, eucalyptus or mustard helps fatigue due to toxin accumulation.

Nervous disorders : Impairments of nerves and correct the problem of associated with the ageing process. Attending the spine, neck, head and feet before bed. Use coconut oil, with  pressure big and index toes. Also massaging the nostrils with ghee, ingesting triphala each morning, washing the eyes with ghee.

Nourishing : Due Abhyanga wastes are loosened, flow to other site of elimination and are expelled as urine , faeces and sweat. So abhyanga nourishes the tissue plasma , blood, fat, bones, and fluid.  Rubbing, pressing, kneading,

Sleep: Abhyanga helps in recovery from the mental, stress, physical  and emotional activities of the day. Abhyanga removes toxins, calm the nerves, brings the body and mind back into balance with nature, and helps the person naturally adjust to daily rythms. Rubbing oil to the feet and tense areas before bed.

Maintain doshas: Abhyanga helps in maintaining all of three doshas. According to the condition of particular doshas different oil is used for massage. Sesame oil blends for general Vayu. Sesame, mustard or canola oil is for kapha , and sesame oil is blended for genera Pitta.
