Digestive system comprises of breaking down of food, assimilation, absorption and expelling the waste products. Food is the fuel for living and good health. Digestion is the tools for using food for good health. Good and proper digestion process receives the nutrient needed for our body. Poor digestion may cause nutrient deficiencies and numerous health problems.  People suffer from indigestion that lead to many digestive disorders. Some of the useful tips for improving digestion are as follows:

  • Eat ½ teaspoon fresh grated ginger with a pinch of rock salt before each meal to stimulate agni.
  • Salt also aids digestion, and helps to retain water.
  • Drinking water in between meal is not recommended and you can drink only after ½ hr atleast.
  • Alkalis help digestion and regulate gastric fire.
  • Including raw foods in your diet is a great way to get natural enzymes
  • Ghee stimulates agni and improves digestion.
  • Small sips of warm water during a meal will aid digestion and absorption of food. Do not drink iced water as it shows agni and digestion. Indeed ice water should not be taken under most circumstances, as it is too shocking to the system.
  • Proper chewing is essential to good digestion, ensuring food gets thoroughly mixed with saliva.
  • A cup of lassi at the end of a meal also aids the digestive process. Make by blending ¼ cup yogurt with pinches of ginger & cumin powder in 1 cup water.
  • Ideally, one should fill the stomach with one third food, one third liquid and one third should be empty.
  • Don’t go to bed immediately after food. Give time of atleast 2 hr to digest the food before bed.
  • Doing exercise and taking high fibers are the keys for better digestion.
  • Chew food properly according to nature of food that aid digestion.
