Common Kitchen herbs for Gastric Trouble

Acid peptic disorder is the common problem of digestive system. Gastritis is common name for the inflammation in inner lining of stomach. This is the common illness for visiting hospital and doctor. People may suffer from gastric trouble at any age. It is food and lifestyle disease which alter the gastric juice secretion. In Ayurveda, it is called “Annavaha srotas bikar” or “Anna Vikara” where gastrointestinal disorders are explained. Gastritis is also known as “Urdhavaga Amlapitta” occurs commonly in pitta constitution person. When the pitta dosha is vitiated by such people, there are greater chances of getting gastritis problems. Due to indigestion, there will be formation of indigestion, and due to improper assimilation process, there will be formation of excess gases in intestines and stomach.

When there is improper food habit, while consuming food and after consuming food there will be gastric trouble. Uncooked, oily, spicy, fried food, alcohol, smoking, pain killers are the major cause of acidity. Even stressful and anxiety life provoke the condition.

Ayurvedic medicines are very useful to control gastritis, hyperacidity, and gastrointestinal disorders. In ayurveda, the medicines used for the process of digestion is classified like “Deepana” and “Pachana” that is carminatives and appetizers, other medicines for virehcana medicines etc. There are various herbs in Ayurveda which are good appetizer, digestive, carminative and antacid. Most of herbs are also available in our kitchen.

Long pepper (Pippali)

Pippali is the common herb in kitchen. It improves the gastrointestinal condition and normalize peristaltic movements of intestine. It is best digestive agent. It helps suppressing pain, reducing inflammation, tones up inner lining of intestine. It is also beneficial for anorexia, indigestion, flatulence, abdominal pain, hyperacidity, piles, also disease of liver, spleen and tumors.

Mint (Pudina)

Mint is good tonic for stomach and liver. Mint leaves stimulate the appetite, promote digestion, relieve flatulency and biliousness. They eliminate thread worms in children, relieve them of colic around the navel region due to worms, and due to indigestion/ gas. The aromatic oils present in it heat digestive juice and regulate samana vayu. It is very helpful for morning sickness, vomiting, nausea and anorexia.

Ginger (Adraka)

Ginger helps to improve the digestion. This can help you to prevent bloating, gas, abdominal pain, heart burn, diarrhea and many other gastrointestinal symptoms. Ginger helps to produce more fluids that help to neutralize the harmful stomach acids that contribute to the formation of ulcers.

Asafoetida (Hing)

Hing burns ama(Toxin). In Ayurveda, hing(asafetida) is used to aid digestion, cure colic, and stagnation in the GI tract.. It is prime herb for Vata and digestion. It is believed to destroys worms and has anti-viral properties.

Bishops (Ajowain)

Ajwain is a herb also known as Bishops Weed. Ajwain is very useful in alleviating spasmodic pains of the stomach and intestines in adults as well as children. Bishops are useful for any colicky pain due to flatulence (gas), indigestion and infections in the intestines.

Cumin (Jeeraka)

Cumin seeds known as Cuminum cyminum is best carminative i.e relieves from gas trouble and improves digestion, Appetite. It is an excellent stimulant and carminative and is useful for Dyspepsia, Nausea, Colic Ailments, Antiemetic, Analgesic, Aromatic, Digestive, Stimulant.
